First, tear off the sewn folds of fabric.  Start at the top of the fabric,  measure 2" width, along the edge.  Cut in about an inch, proceed across the fabric.  Tear the widths apart.  You'll have 2" strips.  This is what you will crochet your rug with.  (I use my ironing broad and tape measure to measure and cut just enough to let the fabric give me room to tear my strips).  Remember...use all the fabric that will make a 2" strip.
To sew, place fronts together in an L-shape then, sew across the corner as shown in the photo on the left.  Trim and spread out
When crocheting with new fabric, laundry it first.  This will keep the colors from running into each other and prevent shrinkage when washing later.  I handwash my baskets in warm, soapy water.  Rinse well, then shape and dry on a wire rack.
